...You may have guessed the reason for the absence of writing over the last few weeks. Yes, it's the school holidays. I can barely check my emails without someone offering to 'help' let alone indulge myself by writing here.
Below is a little summary of the nice things we have been up to (I didn't bother taking photos of rain on windows, toys all over the floor and children arguing - they aren't very inspiring).
The view from Beaumaris in Anglesey over the Menai Strait.
My (not so) Little One, in her favourite hula hula swimming costume. I should say that it really wasn't that warm, but both children were desperate to dip their toes in the chilly Welsh waters. They loved it.
After a fair amount of whingeing (fairly par for the course) we made it to Beaumaris Castle.
They LOVED it.
So many places to hide & explore, in fact, a few too many. I made the mistake of suggesting a game of hide and seek - what a fool!!! Nothing like a few rocky precipices and ancient worn steps to make the nerves jangle. A fellow tourist saved the day and told me where they were. If he hadn't we might have been in the castle a little longer than planned.
A beautiful moment on top of a windswept Derbyshire moor. This is the first time in years we have gone for a proper walk with children in tow. I feel as if the world is opening up again. Happily, I think they enjoyed it as much as me. They look like the best of friends in this picture don't they? Can you guess the reason for the amicable pose? Crisps! Settled down next a drystone wall, in amongst grasses, butterflies and insects munching crisps. Lovely.
Lastly, a bit closer to home, we had a trip to London. The sun shone and the kids were happy and so was I. The Southbank seems to have perfected entertaining children while still allowing the parents to enjoy themselves too.
The Eden Project has collaborated with the Queen Elizabeth Hall to produce the most serene garden on the roof top. Filled with wild flowers, long grasses and vegetables, it is incredible how soothing all that greenery is in amongst all the 1950's concrete. Looking out over the Thames, it would be hard to find a nicer spot in central London to just sit and look at the river.
So that's it. Just one more week to go and we will back to the old routine.
